DJs Mi Amigo The Pirates

Rick Marks

“I have been an anorak since as a fourteen year old my older brother on his way out one night asked me to turn over the tape on an old fashioned reel to reel in an hour’s time. Carrying out his request, I sat and listened to what turned out to be the final hour of RNI. One hour later I was in tears on his return. A few expletives were said as I informed him it was unfair to only tell me about this for the last hour of programming. Don’t worry he said, and tuned my radio into Radio Caroline where it stayed fixed until the sinking of the Mi Amigo.

“I then became involved in Birmingham land based pirates working for County Radio and Sounds Alternative I became good friends with Radio Mi Amigo’s Chris Cooper who worked for a sister station at the time.

“After a 34 year break from radio while being a husband and dad I returned to radio in January 2019 on Replay Radio before switching to RTI in June , and then to Radio Seagull.

“I joined Radio Mi Amigo just before it started broadcasting 24 hours a day and have taken part in a number of live broadcasts from the ship, that have been the highlight of my radio career.”
